Root coverage with the free gingival graft following citric acid and EDTA
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: Treatment of gingival recession and root coverage of denuded roots is one of the main goals of periodontal treatment. The purpose of this study is evaluation of two root conditioning techniques: EDTA (PH=7,24%) and citric acid (PH=1) in free gingival graft procedure. Methods: In this clinical trial study, 16 patients with 24 class I, II gingival recession (Miller classification) on the buccal aspect of anterior teeth were selected. Hygienic phase of periodontal treatment carried out for all patients, and then patients divided into two groups: 12 teeth on the test group FGG and EDTA conditioning, and 12 teeth on the control group FGG and citric acid conditioning. Clinical examination and measurements consisting of oral hygiene, recession depth (RD) and clinical attachment level (CAL) before, 6 weeks, and 3 minutes after surgery. The results were analyzed by using Mann Whitney test and significant level of p<0.05. Results: Both test and control group shows significant reduction in RD three months after operation in comparison with pre-surgical state. The result shows that test and control groups didn’t have significant differences in percent of root coverage, PD, CAL, KW, RW, and RD 3 months after surgery. Conclusion: Using EDTA causes significantly higher amount of keratinized width compared to citric acid conditioning.

full textRoot coverage with the free gingival graft. Factors associated with incomplete coverage.
The free soft tissue autograft when used for increasing the amount of attached gingiva is a relatively simple surgical procedure. The use of the free soft tissue autograft for root coverage, however, is a much more technically demanding procedure requiring the periodontist to consider additional factors. Overlooking or failing to properly address a single one of these factors can result in inco...
full textTwo-step Surgical Procedure for Root Coverage (free Gingival Graft and Coronally Positioned Flap)
Background: Gingival recessions require treatment for many reasons – impaired aesthetic appearance, root sensitivity, cervical caries or abrasion. Two surgical techniques have been described that use free gingival graft for root coverage. The technique proposed by Bernimoullin et al. involves two surgical steps. The first step consists of creating attached gingiva by means of free gingival graf...

This in vivo study evaluated, through the physicochemical assay method for quantification of enhanced vascular permeability, the irritating potential of EDTA, EGTA, citric acid and saline. Thirty-two male Wister rats were anesthetized and four experimental sites were demarcated on their backs. Injections of 2% Evans blue (20 mg/kg) were administered intravenously into the lateral caudal vein. T...

OBJECTIVE This study aims to compare the clot stabilization on root surfaces conditioned with citric acid and ethylenediamine-tetraacetic acid (EDTA). MATERIALS AND METHODS Scaled root samples (n = 100) were set in fve groups: group I-control group (saline solution); group II (24% EDTA); group III (25% citric acid); group IV (EDTA + citric acid); group V (citric acid + EDTA). Fifty samples we...
